{ #30DayChallenge }

I gave up social media for 30 days.
It was a life changing experience.
My days were spent being in the moment.
I spent more time with friends in person.
I spent more time having conversations.
I spent more time engaged with life.

Being that I work in social media, I thought that it would be hard not to open up my Facebook app. I mean there's no harm in just checking your notifications or skimming your news feed right? Believe it or not it wasn't hard at all. I completely stayed clear of my social channels - Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. I really wanted to disengage with all online social communities and I did. Some told me to remove the apps from my phone to make it easier, but I did no such thing.

By day 17 it was a breeze.

Day 17:

Life feels different without social media. I have spent more time speaking with friends at bars, over the phone, at the park, and even via text. It's not like I don't know what's going on with the world because there is still NPR, CNN, Google, and then that one friend that knows about everybody's business. The only thing that I have missed out on is being in everybody's business. Which wasn't too hard of a thing to give up. Getting out of your business has allowed me to be more in my own. I've had more time to get back in the gym daily, cook, get to work on time, read, and sleep. Overall I've been spending way less time on my phone...It feels good.
