One year in advertising. Check. Two months on the social media team. Double check. This past April, I had the opportunity to move from the Accounts team to the Social Media team as a Community Manager.
Community Management is a traditional role by name, yet it’s dynamic and challenging to work in. In the ever-changing world of social media, the role has taught me to be more strategic with my career. Each day presents a learning opportunity because you’re in the midst of tech news and pop culture trends. Not only will you be a forever student with a role in social media, but it will help you to accomplish five things:
Grow your network
Gain invaluable experience
Discover something new about yourself
Master skills needed in advertising
Advance your career in marketing
Accepting a traditional role can sometimes be inevitable due to the culture of your work environment. But your role doesn’t confine you, especially if you're thinking two steps ahead. Remember that social media is energetic and fresh no matter what your role is. It’s not what you call yourself that is important, it’s how well you’re accomplishing at least the five things mentioned above.
Sincerely,
#SocialMedia Rockstar
